Leave of Absense - Part IV - Epilogue

The bells on the door chimed softly as Deserria looked up from her book of accounting, basic calculator off to one side, a pencil behind her ear and another in her hand as she tried to balance out her books.

“Well, toots, look who’s back! It’s the pretty little dancer from only God knows where!” she called in greeting, bouncing up from her chair to come greet Viera, arms held out for a light hug. Viera returned the light hug, as well as the twin kisses to each check. “You look well, that is good to hear indeed.”

“Well enough I should suppose,” Viera responded, shaking her head at the seat offered, but pulling a small envelope from her purse and holding it out to the stylist. “I want you to have this, if it were not for you, I fear I would have been trapped in this city a great deal longer.” The woman hesitated at taking it, but then after she had, she tossed it onto the desk.

“I heard of the fire, but I am glad to hear that you are all right.”

“Calper is dead. Hopefully forever dead. Please do not send any more women to his chambers, as I don’t believe they will return.” Deserria gave a short nod of understanding. “Thank you again, Deserria. I can finally return home.” A soft smile rose to Laviera’s lips, happy was that last thought.

The stylist smiled back and gave a wave. “Take care of yourself then. I pray we will meet again someday.”

“And the same to you.” A bow of her head, and then she was gone, out the door with a soft jingling of the bells.
